Rotary Awards Highest Honour, Paul Harris Fellowship, to Dr Basil Kransdorff and the e'Pap Team

On Tuesday, 12th May, the Rotary Club Claremont:  CapeTown awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship, the highest accolade from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International,  to social entrepreneur - Dr Basil Kransdorff.

A humorous moment was had by all as it was a surprise presentation organized by long term e'Pap supporter Jo Maxwell.  In on the act was our Cape Town distributor, Harold Peters.  Not a whisper from anyone.

Jo Maxwell, a Rotarian from Claremont Rotary Club was one of the first people to understand and recognize the e'Pap contribution to addressing malnutrition (hidden hunger) in relation to early childhood development.  She introduced e'Pap to Cape Town creches 14 years ago.  She continues to ensure that children receive it.  For her efforts in the community, Jo received a Paul Harris Fellowship award in 2008. In 2014 Shelley Godsell  was also awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship for their work in setting up the e'Pap Feeding Project in the Eastern Cape www.epapfeeding.co.za. Shelley and Peter Godsell created the e'Pap feeding program that now feeds e'Pap to 5,000 children in 95 schools across the Garden Route in South Africa.  The exciting part of this project is the 100 volunteers in the area ensure that the children receive their e'Pap which forges great relationships across communities. This project is in its 13th year. 

A surprised Basil received the award on behalf of the whole e'Pap team across Africa and now across the World.  e'Pap Contributors have managed to distribute over 200 million food portions on our 15 year journey and commitment to be part of making Africa - nutrient replete.

The e'Pap Support to Victims of Xenophobia Program

e’Pap South Africa was approached by a number of faith based organizations and NGO's working in communities in Johannesburg and Durban to help victims of xenophobia. Many of these refugees are being supported in shelters where the NGO's are requesting the public to organize non-perishable food to be delivered to distribution points in both cities to support those affected by the outrageous xenophobic outbreaks.

As a company committed to providing assistance to all communities in need, e'Pap galvanised its significant local and international networks to mobilise support to the victims and with responses coming in from within South Africa, as well as Australia and Europe, over 40 000 meal portions have been delivered to distribution points within just a few days. 

To grow the support we are requesting NGO's, corporations and individuals to purchase e'Pap for these displaced families.  The e’Pap Johannesburg office will consolidate purchases and organize deliveries to organizations working with the refugees where it is most needed. The community based organizations working on the ground will ensure it gets to these desperate families.  Logistic companies have also been approached to assist in this emergency program with delivery "free of charge".

The Way It Works….

·       Contact either Oma or Rose on +27 117265634 or send an email to orders@epap.co.za requesting to purchase e'Pap bales at R450.00 per Bale (400 meal portions).

·       Please include the individual’s or organization’s full details so that we can send an invoice for the amount requested.  An invoice for the purchase of e’Pap will then be sent which will include banking details for payment.

·       Please include on method of payment the reference “XENO” so we can ensure your purchase is immediately assigned to the project.

·       It is important to give us your details so that a Proof of Delivery can be sent to the person purchasing as soon as it is delivered.

·       If you believe you can garner support within your company or community, to facilitate an easier process please appoint a point person to consolidate and co-ordinate the funds to purchase and pay for the e’Pap as a single payment.

·       Should you want to allocate the e'Pap to a particular project then please specify this on the order to us.

e'Pap Power to Old Georgians Rugby and Game Rangers of Ndumo

In the last couple of weeks we are once again seeing the far reaching impact of e'Pap - from the world of Rugby to the people who protect our wildlife.

The difference between these two worlds is vast, but at the same time there is also an overwhelming commonality between the two.   Both are physically, psychologically and emotionally demanding requiring peak fitness, concentration and commitment to ensure their work is carried out to maximum effect.

The first letter to arrive came from Old Georgians RFC and the next great letter came in from the Ndumo Community Project.

Zambia Civil Society Organizations Scaling up Nutrition (CSO SUN) Alliance

Dr Basil Kransdorff has just returned from Zambia.  e'Pap was invited to a Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) Conference, to make presentations and to share the e'Pap journey. It was a great opportunity to engage with mainstream nutritional interventions including senior management in the World Food program (WFP) and many other International organizations. There was great interest in our work that could create opportunities for us to take e'Pap and nutrient repleteness to its next level.

the NGO EXPO 2014 will take place on the 3-6 September 2014 at Harare Gardens.
